    Months

    Best practices

    Abbreviate, with no periods:

    • Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec

Exception: If space allows, spell out the month when you're only using the month and the year.

    Date ranges

    Best practices

    • Use an en dash with no spaces when you mean “to” or “through”
    • If the range is within the same month, don’t repeat the month.
    • Express a continuous period of time using an en dash without spaces (e.g., Jan 1–5, 2025)
    • Repeat the year only if the range spans two years (Dec 30, 2025–Jan 2, 2026)

    Time formatting

    Hours

    Best practices

    • When there are 7 days or fewer remaining, use a single letter with the number, no spaces.
    • Show the two highest markers from this list (max): days, hours, minutes, seconds
    • If the second marker is "0," don't use the 3rd marker. Instead just show the first marker by itself.
